Assessing Recycling Rates using RFID: Case Study
Improved tracking techniques, such as RFID, allow for analyses not previously possible. The objectives of this study are to develop a methodology to accurately calculate set-out and mass participation rates for micro-geographic units (e.g. census tracts, blocks). The data is then used to analyze rates using Census Bureau demographic variables to identify potential correlations between recycling rate and household demographics.
- Develop a methodology to analyze both waste and recycling rates on a small-scale within a municipality
- Examine if correlation exists between population demographics and recycling rates
