EREF is a Charity of Choice for the First Annual Waste Industry Charity Golf Classic
Raleigh, NC (November 10, 2014) – 85 waste industry movers and shakers gathered recently for the first annual Waste Industry Charity Golf Classic at the beautiful Tournament Players Club of Tampa Bay in Tampa, FL. Big Truck Rental and Environmental Solutions Group (ESG) partnered together on the event and raised a total of $39,000, of which $13,000 each went to benefit the United Way of Chattanooga (where ESG is based), the Metropolitan Ministries of Tampa (home to Big Truck Rental) and the Environmental Research & Education Foundation (EREF).
EREF Awards Three Research Grants for Solid Waste Research, Next Proposal Deadline is January 8, 2015
Raleigh, NC (October 28, 2014) – The Board of Directors of the Environmental Research and Education Foundation (EREF) is pleased to announce the award of three research grants for solid waste research.
EREF is the only private, grant making institution with a national and international scope whose sole mission is to support solid waste research and education initiatives. EREF’s research grants program is led by its Research Council, a body of volunteers consisting of technical experts in industry, academia and consulting. The work of the Council is guided by a long range strategic plan with the goal to achieve greater sustainability, good environmental stewardship, higher process efficiency and increased knowledge. Council recommended projects are then reviewed by EREF’s Board’s Projects Committee for a final review and funding allocation. Non-research oriented projects are reviewed and recommended to the Projects Committee by technical staff.

Raleigh, NC (September 24, 2014) – The Board of Directors of the Environmental Research and Education Foundation (EREF) is pleased to announce the award of the first Carl J. Apicella scholar as well as five EREF scholarships. The five candidates awarded the EREF scholarship are Ross Taggart, Duke University, Troy Hottle, Arizona State University, Oral Saulters, Indiana University, Stephanos Koullias, University of Massachusetts and Justin Roessler, University of Florida.
EREF Receives Endowed Scholarship from Carl Apicella
Raleigh, NC (September 12, 2014) – The Environmental Research & Education Foundation (EREF) is pleased to announce that Carl Apicella, President of American Environmental Group, a Tetra Tech Company, has funded an endowed scholarship for the EREF scholarship program. The EREF scholarship program awards and recognizes excellence in master’s, doctoral or post-doctoral solid waste management research and education. Existing EREF masters and doctoral awards are also made in memory of Francois Fiessinger, P.E., Ph.D., a graduate of Rutgers University, a founding director of the foundation, and additional scholarships were made possible by the late Robert P. Stearns, P.E., DEE of SCS Engineers, former Chairman of EREF and Robert J. Riethmiller of PTR Baler and Compactor Company. Last year EREF established the Waste Industries Scholarship Honoring Lonnie C. Poole, Jr., an EREF founder and Director Emeritus.

Waste Industries and Progressive Waste Solutions to Co-Host the 2014 EREF Fall Classic & Networking Event
Raleigh, NC (July 22, 2014) – The 2014 Environmental Research & Education Foundation (EREF) Fall Classic & Networking Event – to be held Thursday, October 2 at Pinehurst in North Carolina – will be co-hosted by Waste Industries and Progressive Waste Solutions. The golf tournament will kick off with a Welcome Reception on the evening of Wednesday, October 1. The tournament itself will begin at 9:00 am on Thursday and will be held on Pinehurst No. 1. The tournament will be preceded by a Breakfast and followed by an Awards Luncheon. All proceeds from the tournament will support EREF’s mission, which is carried out by providing scholarships, continuing education and grants for solid waste research.
