EREF Issues Request for Proposals for Sustainable Solid Waste Management Research

2010 EREF Fall Environmental Classic Golf Tournament to Be Held October 21st in Phoenix, Arizona

Raleigh, NC — The  Environmental Research and Education Foundation (EREF) will be holding its 2010 Fall Environmental Classic Golf Tournament on Thursday, October 21, 2010. Sponsored by Veolia Environmental Services and Republic Services, Inc., the tournament will take place at the Wildfire Golf Club Faldo Course at the J.W. Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa in Phoenix, Arizona.

Lonnie C. Poole, Jr. Leadership and Service Honored by EREF

Raleigh, NC – The Environmental Research and Education Foundation (EREF) honored the leadership and service of Lonnie C. Poole, Jr. at a golf tournament and banquet on Thursday, June 3, 2010. The golf tournament was held at The Lonnie Poole Golf Course and the banquet was held at the State Club, both part of North Carolina State University’s Centennial Campus. The event was sponsored by PTR Baler and Compactor Company, Otto Environmental Systems North America, Inc., Joyce Engineering, Inc., E-Z Pack Manufacturing, LLC, Penton Media Exhibitions, Evergreen Environmental Energy, Inc., Republic Services, Inc. and Environmental Solutions Group.

EREF Has Moved to Raleigh

Raleigh, NC – The Environmental Research and Education Foundation (EREF) has moved its office to Raleigh. Founded in 1992 and previously headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, EREF is a 501(c)3 class charity that supports research to develop and evaluate new approaches to manage solid waste and funds scholarships for advanced degrees in environmental science and engineering.

EREF Selects President-Elect

Alexandria, Va. – During its meeting held December 11, 2009 in Amelia Island, Florida, the Environmental Research and Education Foundation (EREF) Board of Directors unanimously voted to promote Bryan S. Staley, Ph.D., P.E. to the position of President-elect; he will assume full responsibility as President and Chief Executive Officer upon the retirement of Michael Cagney on January 1, 2011.

EREF Student/Project Win Top Award at Global Waste Management Symposium

Alexandria, Va. – The Global Waste Management Symposium (GWMS) and 5th Intercontinental Landfill Research Symposium (ICLRS), held consecutively and in cooperation, on September 7-12, 2008 at the Copper Mountain Conference Center, Colorado served as a forum for the presentation of both applied and fundamental research and case studies on solid waste management and landfills. Participants included designers, facility owners and operators, policy makers, university researchers, government agencies, waste service companies, consultants, vendors, members of leading trade organizations, and scientific foundations. The symposiums attracted more than 600 people from the national and international community.

EREF Awards Four Environmental Scholarships

Alexandria, Va. – During its meeting held June 25, 2007 in Paris, France, hosted by Suez Environmental, the Environmental Research and Education Foundation (EREF) awarded its first two master’s level scholars, recipients of the new Robert P. Stearns/SCS Engineers scholarship.  Roberta J. Niemietz, Virginia Polytechnic Institute; and Anne-Marie P. Armstrong, Yale University were each awarded $5,000 per year for up to two years.  Also awarded were two Ph.D. level candidates, one as the Francois Fiessinger scholar, and one as an EREF scholar, both awarded scholarship of $12,000 per year for up to three years.
