EREF Awards Four Scholarships, Including First Waste Industries Scholarship Honoring Lonnie C. Poole, Jr.

Raleigh, NC (December 9, 2013) – The Board of Directors of the Environmental Research and Education Foundation (EREF) is pleased to announce the award of scholarships to one masters and three doctoral students. A Robert P. Stearns/SCS Engineers Master’s Scholarship was given to Jie Pan, Yale University. The Stearns/SCS scholarship is named in honor of the late Robert P. Stearns, former chairman of the EREF board and a co-founder of SCS Engineers. A Fiessinger Doctoral Scholarship was given to Ella Kim, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Fiessinger scholarship is named in honor of Francois Fiessinger, P.E., Ph.D., an engineering graduate of Rutgers University, was a founding director of EREF. Doctoral candidate Xunchang Fei, Universty of Michigan received an EREF scholarship. The very first Waste Industries Scholarship Honoring Lonnie C. Poole, Jr. was awarded to doctoral candidate Megan Jaunich, North Carolina State University.

EREF’s Regional Summit on Leachate Treatment to Be Held October 8 – 9 in Philadelphia

Raleigh, NC (September 3, 2013) – The Environmental Research and Education Foundation (EREF) will be holding a Regional Summit on Sustainable Solid Waste Practices & Research on October 8 – 9, 2013 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Regional Summit will focus on Managing & Treating Landfill Leachate.

Suitable for executives, managers, technical personnel, regulators and consultants, EREF’s Regional Summits present key solid waste research findings and highlight impacts on practice as well as provide updates on legislative activities/policy as they relate to needed research.

Progressive Waste Solutions and Advanced Disposal to Co-Host the EREF Fall Classic Golf Tournament

Raleigh, NC (July 8, 2013) – The 2013 Environmental Research & Education Foundation (EREF) Fall Classic Golf Tournament – to be held Thursday, September 26 at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida – will be co-hosted by Progressive Waste Solutions and Advanced Disposal. The tournament will kick off with a Welcome Reception, sponsored by WCA Waste Corporation, on the evening of Wednesday, September 25. The tournament itself will begin at 8:30 am on Thursday and will be held on the Champion Course, which was redesigned by Jack Nicklaus in 1990 and now hosts the Honda Classic each spring on the PGA Tour. The tournament will be preceded by a Breakfast sponsored by Caterpillar, and followed by an Awards Luncheon. All proceeds from the tournament will support EREF’s mission, which is carried out by providing scholarships and grants for solid waste research.

EREF and EIA to Work Together Collaboratively

Raleigh, NC (May 22, 2013) – The Environmental Industry Associations (EIA) and the Environmental Research & Education Foundation (EREF) will announce later today that they have completed an agreement that sets out how they will work together on matters of research and education going forward. This agreement delineates the areas and parameters for such collaborative work for the mutual benefit and achievement of the missions of the respective groups.

EREF Silent Auction Online Bidding Begins Monday May 6 at 10 am

Raleigh, NC (May 5, 2013) – Now in its 19th year, the Environmental Research & Education Foundation (EREF) Annual Charitable Auction is the foundation's largest fundraiser, so far having raised more than $13 million to further EREF's mission to fund and direct scientific research and educational initiatives for waste management practices. The Auction will be held at WasteExpo 2013 in New Orleans, Louisiana (May 20 – 23, 2013) and includes both a Live and a Silent Auction.

EREF to Power Virtual Learning Environment at Penton’s WasteExpo 2013

Raleigh, NC (March 1, 2013) – The Environmental Research & Education Foundation (EREF) will deliver a new virtual learning environment at WasteExpo 2013, North America's largest solid waste and recycling tradeshow serving both the private and public sectors. EREF’s new online continuing education courses provide quality and beneficial content to solid waste industry members to improve and excel in their profession.
