This meeting will discuss research studies funded by EREF and being conducted by the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University-Florida State University and George Mason University. Leachates from landfills containing coal and municipal solid waste incinerator ash can generate leachate that has significantly higher concentrations of dissolved solids and other compounds relative to MSW landfill leachates. The performance of GCLs when exposed to aggressive leachates is not well understood. These projects focus on determining the effects of the aggressive leachates on the performance and design of the second generation GCLs and the development of polymer modified GCLs based on these aggressive leachates.
