January 8, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm EST

| $29

Landfill Covers Basics
2:00 – 3:30 pm EST

Landfill covers are important to control the percolation of water into the waste, mitigate fugitive gas emissions, control erosion and reduce odors. This webinar will focus on the basic principles related to landfill cover design, cover types, design considerations and current research advances. Soil, geocomposite liner, sand-bentonite and composite covers will be discussed in addition to alternative designs for final covers such as evapotranspiration, exposed membrane, solar and turf covers.

Upon completion of this webinar, the attendee will be able to:

  • Describe soil classifications, compaction, landfill components and daily and intermediate covers
  • Understand regulations related to landfills covers
  • List the components of final covers and their functions
  • Describe Evapotranspiration, exposed membrane, solar and turf covers
  • Discuss current research advances in landfill cover

Presenter:

Dr. Tarek Abichou
Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering
Florida A&M University-Florida State University College of Engineering

Dr. Abichou is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. Dr. Abichou received his MS and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
