Grocery Store Packaging Study

The increasing use of single-use items and diverse packaging types creates challenges for the solid waste industry, as many consumer goods are packaged with marketing in mind rather than their end-of-life management. To address this, EREF is conducting a study across 19 grocery stores in the U.S. to identify the most common packaging materials and formats, providing insights into waste stream composition. These findings will help stakeholders align packaging decisions with waste management capabilities, ultimately supporting a more sustainable and circular economy.
