Landfill Emissions Model and Solid Waste Industry for Climate Solutions (SWICS) Materials

The SWICS Landfill Emissions Model (LEM) aims to improve the estimation of landfill gas collection efficiencies by using site specific data to determine how well a site should be preforming. Through collaboration with industry stakeholders and leading academics, this project will improve the documentation of the LEM through a multi-pronged scientific review of the exsisting model and will provide reccomendations for improving the model.

The review includes a literature review of collection efficiencies published in academic journals to determine if the collection efficiency ranges are appropriate and analysis of annual site data to ground the model’s scoring matrix in science.
