State of Practice: Hospital, Medical & Infectious Waste
Effective management of hospital, medical, and infectious waste (HMIW) is essential to preventing exposure to toxic and infectious materials, yet much of the existing research on its environmental impact is outdated. This study will provide updated data on HMIW generation, composition, and incineration, assess the effects of new EPA regulations, and compare on-site versus off-site treatment. This research will provide critical insights to address misconceptions, inform policy, and improve HMIW management practices.
