Methane emissions from landfills are a pressing environmental concern, yet accurately measuring them remains a significant challenge.
Join us to discuss the findings of a cutting-edge controlled release study designed to assess methane measurement techniques in real-world landfill conditions. Dr. Dave Risk will break down the complex science into actionable insights, exploring the performance of various methane quantification methods.
You’ll learn how these methods are tested for reliability, accuracy, and practicality in everyday landfill operations. Learn how this research impacts regulatory compliance, mitigation strategies, and future environmental policies.
You’ll walk away with valuable takeaways, including:
- Understanding the importance of methane measurement in discussions around climate change
- A comparative look at methane detection techniques and their real-world performance
- Practical guidance for improving methane monitoring in your operations
- How data from this study can help providers improve their services for the waste management sector as they aim to reduce methane

Meet our speaker:
Dr. Dave Risk is a Research Chair in Climate Science and Policy at St. Francis Xavier University (StFX) in Nova Scotia, Canada. Risk’s ‘FluxLab’ team has been involved in ecological gas measurement projects from pole to pole, has visited over 15,000 onshore and offshore oil and gas facilities across North America to assess inventories, and has measured methane levels at Canadian landfills from coast to coast. Most recently they have been operating a full-scale landfill emissions simulation facility to help industry, regulators, and developers assess methodologies for methane measurement.
Upon successful completion of this Science Session, you will receive a Certificate of Attendance via email with the relevant number of Professional Development Hours (PDH) shown on the certificate. This certificate does not automatically qualify you for professional continuing education credits. It is your responsibility to verify that the PDHs from this event are eligible for continuing education purposes for your specific credentials. The certificate is only available to those who register and attend the live Science Session.
