Landfill Emissions Measurement and Estimation Program

This project addresses the critical gap in accurate, science-based measurement and estimation of landfill gas emissions. Current methodologies are inconsistent, lack transparency, and can lead to significant uncertainties in greenhouse gas inventories. By developing and validating standardized protocols for emissions measurement and modeling, this work aims to improve the reliability and comparability of emissions data across landfill sites.

The expected outcome is a robust framework for quantifying landfill gas emissions that includes field-validated methods, updated emissions factors, and practical guidance for implementation. This will support regulatory agencies, researchers, and landfill operators in achieving more accurate reporting and informed decision-making.
