Technologies that can directly and accurately measure total methane emissions from large areas, such as landfills are still being developed; therefore, operators must rely on models to estimate total methane emissions for regulatory and sustainability reporting. The SWICS Landfill Emissions Model (SWICS-LEM) is an Excel-based tool that uses site-specific operational parameters to calculate landfill gas (LFG) emissions.
